Er is topberaad bij de FIA. Hier gaat men de acties van Michael Masi onder de loep nemen.
Het houdt niet op, niet vanzelf. Ondanks dat ‘we’ voor het eerst een Nederlandse Formule 1-wereldkampioen hebben, is er ook de nodige controverse. Dat ging niet om het feit dat Hamilton vrijuit ging bij zijn actie in ronde 1, waar hij de bocht afsneed. Nee, het ging om de beslissing van Michael Masi.
Ondanks de euforie in Nederland, is men wereldwijd zwaar teleurgesteld. Hamilton lag op ramkoers om te winnen, maar zag zijn voorsprong in de laatste paar ronden verdampen om in de laatste ronde verschalkt te worden door Verstappen op versere en zachtere banden. Wellicht hebben jullie het mee gekregen.
Handelen van Michael Masi
Volgens Racingnews365 is er vandaag een topberaad bij de FIA. Er staat sowieso een heel belangrijk gespreksonderwerp op de agenda: het handelen van Michael Masi tijdens de safetycar-periode na de crash van Nicholas Latifi. De vergadering wordt voorgezeten door de nieuwe voorzitter, je weet wel, Mohammed Ben Sulaymen. Hij krijgt wat hulp van Robert Reid, die een uitgebreide analyse heeft gemaakt van de situatie.
Nu is het op zich niet vreemd dat de FIA topberaad houdt om zijn eigen acties te onderzoeken. Toevallig kwam de FIA laatst nog in het nieuws omdat de naam van Michael Masi ontbreekt op het FIA-organogram voor 2022. Dat komt echter door de aanstelling van Peter Bayer, de nieuwe baas van Masi. Die beslissing was echter al genomen voordat de GP van Abu Dhabi van start ging.
Gênante situatie topberaad FIA
Het meest gênante aan de situatie is dat het lijkt alsof er koppen moeten rollen. Volgens de populaire Nederlandse F1-site is het nog onzeker of Lewis Hamilton volgend jaar nog wel mee zal doen. Het schijnt dat Lewis Hamilton enorme eisen stelt bij de FIA.
Dat is hoogstwaarschijnlijk de reden dat er nog steeds radiostilte heerst bij Hamilton. Op geen enkel kanaal heeft hij ook maar iets van zich laten horen sinds de kwalificatie van de GP van Abu Dhabi, waar hij toevallig genoeg ook tweede werd, net als in de race en het kampioenschap.
UPDATE (14 januari): De geruchten bleken te kloppen. Ook de F1-organisatie meldt dat er een ‘gedetailleerde analyse’ aankomt van wat er op die zondagavond 11 december is gebeurd. De FIA kondigde 16 december al aan dat er een dergelijke analyse zou komen.
Aanstaande 19 januari wordt de safetycar-situatie onder de loep genomen door de Sport Advies Commissie. Daaropvolgend komt er een discussie met alle Formule 1-coureurs. Dus niet alleen de heren die erbij betrokken waren, maar alle huidige F1-coureurs.
De uitkomst ervan wordt ten tijde van de World Motor Sport Council op 18 maart bekendgemaakt. Dan wordt ook de ‘organisatie voor 2022 geoptimaliseerd.’ Wat dat laatste precies gaat inhouden, is onduidelijk.

Alhoewel ik Max over een heel seizoen de terechte kampioen vind, is Lewis gewoon bestolen die laatste race, door heel vreemde beslissingen van Masi. Die had of eerder de call moeten maken van, achterblijvers erlangs, of moeten blijven bij zijn eerdere call, achterblijvers er niet langs. Masi heeft hier een fout gemaakt door eerst nee, en toen okay alleen die auto’s tussen Lewis en Max in er wel langs te zeggen. En die fout dient naar mijn mening toegegeven te worden, en er moet gekeken worden hoe ze dit in de toekomst kunnen voorkomen. En Masi kan natuurlijk een fout maken, hij moet het ook a la minute beslissen, maar wees dan gewoon eerlijk over de fout die gemaakt is. Sommige scheidsrechters in het voetbal geven ook hun fouten toe, en dat vind ik klasse.

Elke race zijn er momenten en situaties die in je voordeel of niet werken. Soms door eigen invloed, veel door invloed van buitenaf. Je kan daarom niet zeggen dat Hamilton de race verdiende te winnen en dan ook meteen kampioen moest worden. Want hij heeft genoeg races gewonnen die hij niet verdiende te winnen. Maar wel gewonnen heeft en daardoor in de situatie gekomen is dat hij überhaupt nog mee deed.

Het probleem : er zijn 2 race directors. De eerste kennen we allemaal, dat is Masi. Maar er is ook een lokale Race Director. Die laatste is bepalend. In dit geval moest Masi wachten op de 2e RD die het verloop van het incident bekeek.
Zodra er geen marshalls of takelwagens meer op de baan waren gaf de lokale RD de baan vrij. Direct erna gaf Masi het signaal dat de achterblijvers erlangs mochten. Die mogen erna volle patat en je wilt niet dat ze vol gas langs een incident gaan.

Ik vind de uitslag van dit seizoen echt prima. Max de rijderstitel en Mercedes de constructeurstitel. Zo hoort het ook. Max was de beste rijder en Mercedes had de beste auto gebouwd. En ik begrijp de frustratie van Hamilton over de laatste ronde, maar als we het lijstje met pech van Max eens gaan opsommen dan is de conclusie snel duidelijk lijkt me.

Als Verstappen geen pech had gehad dan was het ook prima te pruimen voor Hamilton, fair en square verslagen. Het zit in de rare beslissing van Massi om eerst niemand voorbij te laten en later wel. Terecht dat dit onderzocht wordt.

Wat masi ook had gedaan her was altijd fout geweest. Net als een strafschop in de laatste minuut. Deed hij niks was het fout, ingrijpen ook fout. No win situation. Was onder whiting niet anders.

Niet alleen voor Lewis die keihard genaaid is, maar ook voor Max die straks de geschiedenis ingaat met een titel die door de hele wereld behalve NL discutabel wordt geacht.

Wat een onzin dit. Sporters pushen elkaar vaak tot grote hoogten, ze hebben elkaar nodig. Ik durf wel te stellen dat Max het niveau van dit jaar niet gehaald had zonder een gelijkwaardig opponent zoals Hamilton. Dit zie je in meer sporten, dus we moeten juist blij zijn met deze strijd.

Beetje vaag verhaal. Niet van Autoblog of zo, maar in z’n geheel. Waarom is er nu al topberaad nodig? De aangewezen onderzoekscommissie is afgelopen maandag pas begonnen met het onderzoek en hoopt de bevindingen uiterlijk 3 februari te kunnen presenteren. Tot die tijd lijkt het mij verstandig dat ook de hoge heren bij de FIA nog even van hun vakantie genieten, voordat er straks onschuldige mensen hun congé krijgen of andere maatregelen aangekondigd worden zonder dat daar een goed fundament voor is.

Van mij hoeft Masi niet ontslagen te worden, maar dat er iets veranderd moet worden aan de regels en de manier van handhaven ben ik zeker mee eens. Ik zou beginnen met 1 vast team van mensen die bij alle races aanwezig is. Dan hebben de mensen altijd dezelfde mening over dezelfde situatie en kan constanter worden gehandhaafd wanneer nodig.
Ook regels omtrent tijd en gridstraffen mogen van mij veranderd worden. Gridstraf voor te veel onderdelen gebruiken standaard laatste plek starten en bij een sprint race achteraan starten in de grand prix en niet de sprint kwalificatie race. Een crash waarbij je concurrent uitvalt ook geen tijdstraf maar 3 plekken terug in de einduitslag, zodat iemand die dat doet nooit op een podium kan komen te staan.
En wellicht veel meer dingen als je alle regels zou lezen, maar laten we met deze eens beginnen.

Heel YouTube staat vol met analyses waaruit blijkt dat Hamilton met opzet een andere lijn reed in die bocht. Hij mist de apex en drukt Verstappen daarmee naar buiten.
Daarbij, Copse Corner is een van de snelste bochten van het seizoen. Door de gigantische G krachten is elk tikje daar fataal, dus je suggestie dat Verstappen zijn volgetankte wagen wel op de baan kon houden is niet juist. Hamilton wist dit natuurlijk (of hij had het kunnen weten) en heeft bewust het risico genomen dat Verstappen er hard af zou vliegen. Voorwaardelijke opzet noemen ze dat ook wel in het strafrecht.
Stel dat Verstappen daar iets was overkomen, was je dan nog steeds zo mild geweest?

Probleem is niet alleen de laatste race. Tijdens het hele seizoen zijn er voorvallen geweest, bestraft of onbestraft, waarbij de gemaakte keuzes dubieus en inconsistent zijn.
De teams hebben tientallen analisten, die met de regels in de hand berekeningen maken over de strategie. Echter als de de regels soms wel, soms niet gehanteerd worden, dan is dat zinloos.
De Fia heeft steeds wisselende stewards, en bv Masi heeft niet zo’n team van analisten die hem adviseren.
Ja, misschien had Hamilton een andere straf moeten hebben in Silverstone. Ja misschien had Max een andere straf moeten hebben in Monza. Deze gevallen is er tenminste naar gekeken en is er een uitspraak geweest. Maar in vele situaties niet of is een inconsistente uitspraak geweest.

LIjkt me niet meer dan terecht dat ze de gang van zaken eens goed onder de loep nemen. Er werd namelijk een regel toegepast op een manier zoals dat niet eerder is gebeurd, die toevallig ook nog eens beslissend was voor de uitkomst van het kampioenschap.
Moeten ze zich iets aantrekken van de dreigementen van Lewis? Nee, dat niet. Wat de FIA nu besluit is zoals het is, en dat geldt ook voor Lewis – niet andersom.

Ik blijft het verbazingwekkend vinden dat de focus volledig op die laatste ronde blijft liggen terwijl er over het seizoen meerdere opmerkelijke beslissingen zijn genomen die net zo veel invloed hadden op het kampioenschap. Wordt er geroepen dat Hamilton bestolen is terwijl het juist Max was die bestolen is. Gelukkig was het net niet genoeg om Max het kampioenschap af te nemen maar veel had het niet gescheeld.

Jammer dit. MB en Hamilton zijn nu toch aan het proberen de “morele” winnaar van het jaar 2021 te worden door de FIA te dwingen met een uitspraak te komen waaruit kan worden opgemaakt dat de laatste race er fouten zijn gemaakt waardoor Hamilton geen kampioen is geworden. Hierdoor besmetten ze eigenlijk de titel van Verstappen.
Ik hoop dat de FIA een onderzoek gaat doen naar de beslissingen die zijn genomen gedurende het hele seizoen. Er zijn namelijk ook genoeg momenten aan te wijzen waarin Hamilton een onevenredig voordeel heeft gehad van beslissingen van de wedstrijdleiding. Het onderzoek beperken tot de laatste race alleen is een farce.

Bedankt voor je berichtje! Racingnews365 is doorgaans een betrouwbare bron. Absoluut geen ‘roddel’-site. Sterker nog, waar wij met een knipoog of grappig proberen te zijn, is RN365 vrij serieus. Als Geer en Goor iets zinnig, bijzonders of aparts te melden hebben over Formule 1, dan zullen we daar zeker van berichten ;-).
Niet bij elk gerucht wordt er een bron of persoon vrijgegeven. Als dat wel het geval is, vermelden we dat. Sowieso vermelden we altijd de bron en linken we daarna. We geven ook duidelijk aan dat het om geruchten gaat. We delen dat nieuws en als RN365 de primeur heeft, dan dienen zij daarin vermeldt te worden. Het is niet de eerste keer dat we een andere site quote en kan je verklappen: het zal ook niet de laatste keer zijn.
Betreft de haartransplantatie van Lewis, op zich kun je dat afgaande van zijn 2008 foto’s eenvoudig vast stellen. Ook daarbij zijn er diverse bronnen/geruchten, maar die achten we minder geloofwaardig ;-).

@flyerbunch: precies zoals ik al dacht, ze hadden al aangegeven de procedures en uitvoering te bekijken om van te leren en evt wijzigingen door te voeren voor 2022. Had die nieuwe FIA baas ook al gezegd. De media en Nederlanders die in het Engels niet goed kunnen interpreteren maken er meer van in de trant van mogelijk pakken ze Max zn titel af. Maar dat gaat niet gebeuren. Ze gaan regels en procedures veranderen zodat het voor iedereen eerlijker en duidelijker wordt. Dit onderzoek was beloofd en was uiteindelijk ook de reden van Mercedes om niet in hoger beroep te gaan. Uiteindelijk goed voor F1 en de kijkers.

@flyerbunch: volgens Sky Sports F1 heeft men heeft ook aangekondigd dat de FIA alle partijen zal horen en deze bevindingen zal samenbundelen tegen 3/2, maar die termijn zal wrs niet worden gehaald.

Men spreekt over nieuwe regels waarop men moet gaan stemmen en de definitieve tekst zal dan worden bekend gemaakt op 18/3.
Ondertussen lijkt Lewis de FIA te gijzelen op deze manier voor veranderingen door te voeren en met zijn beslissing om door te gaan of niet. Zijn beslissing zou dus hiermee samenhangen en normaal begin februari vallen. The Race heeft hier een mooi filmpje van gemaakt Lewis en Senna in vergelijking die hetzelfde deed!

Ten eerste. Het is artikelen in plaats van artikels. Ten tweede. Ik lees luister en kijk een hoop over de F1. Al ongeveer dertig jaar. Voor de duidelijkheid. Het Mercedes AMG team is voor 1/3 van Infineon, 1/3 van Toto Wolf en 1/3 van Mercedes. Je zou dus denken dat Mercedes weinig invloed heeft, maar dat is niet het geval. Hoe goed Hamilton ook is (in mijn ogen in de top 3 aller tijden), hij weet heel goed dat hij een top auto nodig heeft om kampioen te worden. Idem Toto Wolf. Als Mercedes zich uit het F1 project terugtrekt heeft hij een serieus probleem. Met andere woorden als Mercedes tegen Wolf en Hamilton zegt; “nu is het genoeg” dan kiezen Wolf en Hamilton eieren voor hun geld. Het feit dat Mercedes Hamilton en Wolf de ruimte geeft om zo lang in hun gejammer te blijven hangen is dus een gebrek aan regie vanuit “Das Haus”. En dat is ongelofelijk want het kost ze veel goodwill, zelfs inmiddels in GB.

Dit overleg is vorig jaar besloten en nu in de agenda gezet. Begrijpend lezen van wat f1 zegt op de eigen website zou helpen. En ik kijk het al 40 jaar. Wist niet dat het een wedstrijd was

Ik vind het niet per se chique van Mercedes om koppen te eisen en ik ben ook niet bepaald fan van Mercedes, Ham, Bot, Rus noch Toto…
…Maar ze hebben m.i. wel gelijk. Dat marchanderen met de regels wat Masi in Abu Dhabi en Saoedie-Arabië deed ging nergens over. Ja hij is ‘de baas’, maar als je een paar sequoia’s aan reglementen hebt liggen en je ‘doet dan maar wat’…dat kèn niet.
Denk niet dat er sprake is van kwaaie wil dus wmb blijft Masi gewoon. Maar tik op de pols is wel geïndiceerd.

Ik wilt toch even wat objectiviteit toevoegen. Her en der in de reacties lees ik gewoon onwaarheden. Mercedes zit hier niet achter nu, ze vragen hier nu niet om. Was al besloten na het protest vorig jaar. Dit is uitvoering. Feiten bekijken zoals ze zijn is handiger. Beter ook dan dit soort emo artikels die echt alleen maar bestaan voor de omzet van autoblog. Leuk op zich, en begrijpbaar dat autoblog geld wil verdienen maar vergeet de kritische nood niet. Dit is niets meer dan de fia die doet wat ze beloofde te gaan doen. En dat op zich is goed voor de sport.

Dat dit een gebruikelijke keuze is, doet niets af aan het feit.
In andere sporten worden ook fouten gemaakt, en het is echt zelden dat wedstrijden overgespeeld worden of uitslagen veranderd. Wat niet wil zeggen dat het onmogelijk is.
De Fia heeft in dit geval de boel gechanteerd. Want ze hebben in de contracten staan dat de teams erkennen dat de Fia het hoogste orgaan is, dus bezwaar buiten de Fia is contractbreuk. En het is de laatste race, en naast de race vechten en bezwaren is slechte pr voor de betrokken teams, en de formule 1 waar de teams hun geld mee verdienen. De meer ik over het gebeuren nadenk, hoe meer ik denk dat op heel hoog niveau, er van te voren over nagedacht is om de wedstrijd zo te laten verlopen dat al het mogelijke werd gedaan om een andere kampioen te hebben. Zonder dat dit op zou vallen. Dat laatste is mislukt.
